WeAfric is born from our dedication to unlocking the immense potential of the African Diaspora. Our aim is clear - to empower, uplift, and unite our community, creating a brighter future for generations to come.
Our story began with a remarkable group of individuals, all sharing the vibrant spirit of Africa and bound by the common thread of seeking a better life in the United Kingdom. For various reasons, we had left our homelands behind, some fleeing hardships, while others in search of new opportunities and possibilities.
As members of the African Diaspora in the UK, we carried within us the rich tapestry of our diverse cultures, the strength to overcome adversity and the determination to create a positive impact. London became our new home, a city that welcomed us with open arms, offering a sense of belonging amidst its multicultural landscape. In this dynamic melting pot, our paths crossed & a powerful connection was forged.
Despite the distances that separated us from our African roots, we found solace and camaraderie in our shared experiences of starting anew in a foreign land. United by a common purpose, a simple WhatsApp group became the starting point for an extraordinary journey. In the exchanges of stories and dreams, we recognised the immense potential within our community, fuelled by the desire to empower, uplift, and unite the African Diaspora.
From this shared sense of belonging, WeAfric was born - an integrated social networking platform designed to amplify our voices, celebrate our heritage, and drive collective action for a brighter future.
As we continue on this inspiring narrative, we invite you to be part of the WeAfric movement. Together, we stand tall, a testament to the strength of unity and the boundless possibilities that arise when individuals with a shared vision come together.
WeAfric focuses on platform development and introduces industry-leading features like HatTalk, Learn and Business Exchange, and Networking. Strategic partnerships with individuals, community leaders, and organisations drive iterative development. The key advisory team led by Lizo Ngqobongwana and event management teams headed by Hannah Petros and Enefiok are formed.
Extensive research and design identify key features, functionality, and value propositions. The team expands with Ajay Revels as UI researcher, Suleiman Deni as a back-end developer, and Folusho Titiloye as a business developer.
WeAfric gains recognition by joining the 1000 BlackVoices business accelerator sponsored by Microsoft for Startups, CyberDuck, and SingularityNET. The platform is featured on media channels like the Wode MAYA show, BBC London, and the US-based African Diaspora News Channel.
WeAfric forms a global and cross-functional team, establishing processes for platform development and signalling the company's intersection of community building, business, and technology.
WeAfric emerges from the WhatsApp group "Success In You," with Co-founders Daniel Abbay as CEO, Henry Otim as Marketing CMO, Julius Popoola as CTO, and Henock Hailemariam as PM and WeAfric Business Manager. The core team is formed, ideas are brainstormed, and a clear roadmap is created, setting the foundation for the company.
